Description: Qualifications: The social work intern must be currently enrolled and in good standing in a university’s Master of Social Work program with specialization in schools and be pursuing the State of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)–School Social Worker Endorsement. Individual initiative, professional collaboration and teamwork is necessary. Fluent in Spanish or other languages preferred, but not required.Job Description: The social work intern serves students whose social-emotional difficulties interfere with their capacity to function adequately as a student. The social work intern professionally assesses the problem and through consultation, individual or group action, develops a plan to assist the student and/or their family. This professional relationship is dependent upon its confidential nature and may consist of initial assessment interviews or may be an on-going program throughout the year or the student’s school career. The social work intern will be primarily assigned to the middle school level.Work Days/Hours: This internship is three days a week, days to be determined between the Principal and the intern, but most likely M, W, F 7:30-2:45. Start date is Monday, August 20, 2025 and the last day is Friday, May 29, 2026.Stipend: Interns receive a stipend of $13,000/year.Responsibilities:

  • Provide school social work services, which address the psychosocial needs of students and their families so as to directly address academic performance and achievement.
  • Participate in systems-based social work involving the student, the family, and the school personnel in identifying needs, establishing an intervention plan, and collaborating with community agencies to provide additional support.
  • Complete initial assessments on newly referred students
  • Complete social developmental histories
  • Assess student’s adaptive behavior
  • Provide school-based interventions, including but not limited to:
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Crisis intervention
  • Case management
  • Collaboration with school-based staff and administrators
  • Participation in Student Support Teams and Individual Education Plan meetings as needed and assist in the development of interventions in which school social services are appropriate.
  • Serve as an advocate for students and parents.
