Description: Job Description: Arcadia University seeks a technically skilled and proactive Front-End Web Developer to support the ongoing health, performance, and optimization of the University’s website. This role is responsible for implementing and maintaining responsive, accessible, and standards-compliant front-end code within WordPress, ensuring the site functions seamlessly across devices and browsers. The Front-End Web Developer will work closely with the Campus Webmaster to implement technical updates, enhance site performance, and ensure consistency across all digital platforms. The role will translate design mockups and content needs into functional web pages – primarily within WordPress – bringing digital stories to life while optimizing for usability and user experience. - Collaborating with the Campus Webmaster to maintain and enhance the University’s website infrastructure
- Supporting the Web Associate with front-end execution of web content, layouts, and visual components
- Ensuring cross-browser compatibility, mobile responsiveness, and ADA compliance
- Building and maintaining reusable code and front-end libraries
- Assisting with website testing, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
Essential Functions
- Develop, test, and maintain responsive, accessible, and mobile-first components of Arcadia’s website using WordPress.
- Collaborate with the Campus Webmaster, Web Associate, and Marketing/Communications team to implement visual and functional updates.
- Translate wireframes, design mockups, and content briefs into fully functional web pages using clean, scalable code.
- Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards, SEO best practices, and Arcadia branding guidelines.
- Optimize websites for speed, performance, and scalability across all devices and major browsers.
- Build and maintain reusable code libraries, documentation, and style guides to support consistency and efficiency.
- Develop web solutions to meet marketing needs such as landing pages, interactive forms, and campaign integrations (e.g., social media, registration systems).
- Contribute to cross-functional projects supporting digital campaigns, enrollment initiatives, and institutional priorities.
- Research and integrate new web technologies to expand Arcadia’s online presence, including video/audio embeds, social media feeds, blogs, RSS, email campaigns, and user-generated content features.
Marginal Functions
- Stay current with emerging trends in front-end development and web design in higher education.
- Provide training and support for campus partners on basic web content updates and governance practices.
- Assist with QA testing and troubleshooting of digital features and CMS/plugin updates.
Qualifications:Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end frameworks/libraries
- Strong understanding of responsive coding techniques and implementation
- Hands-on experience with WordPress, including theme customization and plugin configuration.
- Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them
- Familiarity with back-end technologies and CMS integrations (e.g., PHP, MySQL).
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and web analytics tools such as Google Analytics.
- Understanding of web accessibility (WCAG/ADA), UX/UI principles, and responsive design.
- Experience with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and Figma or Adobe XD.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, scalable code and troubleshoot issues across environments.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in web development, computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Web Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field OR equivalent practical experience gained through bootcamps, certifications, or self-directed learning
- At least 4 years of front-end development experience (websites, apps, or other digital experiences)
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (including modern frameworks/libraries)
- Solid understanding of responsive and mobile-first design principles
- Experience translating design mockups and wireframes into functional web pages
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and best practices for inclusive design
- Strong collaboration skills with designers, developers, and other stakeholders
- Attention to detail, creative problem-solving ability, and a user-centric mindset
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in higher education or a similarly complex, mission-driven environment.
- Familiarity with SEO tools, CRM platforms, and marketing automation systems.
