Position HighlightsThe University of Arizona School of Art is accepting applications for an Academic Advisor II. The Academic Advisor II serves majors and minors in the School of Art for Main campus and AZOnline. This position serves as a front line contact for undergraduate students for developmental academic advising. The Academic Advisor II plays a vital role in maximizing undergraduate student retention, driving engagement, and building formative relationships with students by interpreting information and providing clarification on procedures and academic requirements of specific programs or majors. Working under minimal supervision, the Academic Advisor II assesses individual students’ stage of development and advises them on education plans, selecting courses, and career options, in addition to assisting them in establishing realistic and attainable educational and career goals. Academic Advisors have the authority to approve students’ academic degree programs, including evaluating transfer credit and making exceptions to the program requirements under the auspices of their respective faculty.The person occupying this position will join a dynamic school of approximately 50 faculty and staff. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Holds advising appointments with individual students in order to assesses individual students stage of development (academic and career) and promotes their growth by determining suitable developmental tasks.
  • Evaluates use of transfer credit and determines whether or not degree requirements have been met.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of job content, practices, and procedures in order to understand and explain School of Art curriculum requirements.
  • Maintains knowledge of regulations and policies that impact students’ educational options; maintains knowledge of curriculum updates.
  • Maintains and updates student academic records and advising reports.
  • Counsels students on options to satisfy degree requirements. Monitors students’ academic progress, determines satisfactory progress toward degree, and assists students in completion.
  • Advises students with academic difficulty on development of an academic action plan, and refers students to appropriate campus resources for assistance as needed.
  • Participates in recruitment efforts, College and University events, and orientations.
  • Builds and fosters relationships with community colleges and other transfer institutions, including development of transfer equivalencies and articulation agreements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with UAccess Student and Administration, GradAPP, Grad Path, Analytics, Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Publisher, Excel and Outlook, Office 365 suite).
  • Experience working with post-secondary students.
  • Experience consulting with senior academic advisors with highly unusual or complex situations.
