Description: Title: MFT/Art Therapy Student TraineeDepartment: KES/School CounselingReports To: Counseling SupervisorLocation: KESFLSA Work Classification: VolunteerSchedule: 20 hours Weekly/FlexibleSupervisory Responsibility: NonePOSITION SUMMARYUnder the supervision of a licensed clinical supervisor, the Marital and Family/Art Therapy Student Trainee will learn to provide individual and group therapy to improve the emotional well-being of KES students.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS1. Provide individual and group counseling services specializing in Art Therapy, as well as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and other theories.2.Prepare and participate in weekly clinical individual and group supervision.3. Attend all-school staff meetings, school trainings, personal development days, and parent meetings (when available). Attend ‘back to school night” and “open house” (if available).4. Provide crisis intervention and consultation (i.e. risk assessment for abuse or danger to self/others). Consult with the clinical supervisor immediately regarding all crises and risk management situations and communicate as instructed with other members of the school counseling team, supervisor, and school staff.5. Maintain a billing binder that includes a daily service log and session notes, as well as any other documentation that may be required.6.Update BBS hours weekly or as appropriate.Other Duties:1.Perform other duties as assigned.2.Comply with ECF/KES policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Current enrollment in a graduate program (MA, MS, MSW) in Social Work or Psychology.Experience: No experience required.Other:

  • Ability to provide Counseling Services specializing in Art Therapy.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people from varied backgrounds, and to communicate a professional clinical perspective in interdisciplinary staff meetings while respecting the roles and responsibilities of other professionals.
  • Ability to organize work, set personal priorities and meet multiple deadlines as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Ability to use the computer to maintain accurate, timely and thorough clinical documentation.
  • Pass a DOJ background investigation, provide evidence of a negative TB test, and obtain and maintain NCI, First Aid and CPR certification.

WORK ENVIRONMENTThis is a school environment for students (K-12th grade) who have varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities. Work will be performed primarily in a private office. The environment may include frequent interruptions, loud noises, odors, varying indoor temperatures, and drafts. The Student Trainee may encounter students who are in crisis, exhibiting emotional/psychological distress or behaving in an aggressive manner. The Student Trainee may not leave a child alone in a room.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSConstant interaction with speaking and hearing. Use of hands and arms to reach and hands and fingers to handle objects. Sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, carrying, use of both hands and repetitive motion will be required in performance of the job duties. Possible exposure to drafts and building temperatures and climate change when outdoors. Occasional walking.EQUIPMENT OPERATIONStandard office equipment i.e., personal computer, fax machine, copier, printer, and telephone.
