Project Planning and Control Specialist (Project Planner)

You will be working as Project Planning and Control Specialist and will be part of Process Automation Business Area for Energy Industries Division based in Ngwodana, South Africa. In this role you will be reporting to Planning Manager and will be responsible for developing project plans and schedules that balance available resources with the critical tasks to be undertaken during the on-site construction, installation, and commissioning activities of the project. Monitoring the project progress and escalate potential schedule conflicts or resource overloads to site and construction management for resolution.

Your responsibilities

  • Analyze project requirements and advise the Project Planning and Controls Manager in planning. Oversee coordination with related teams through regular planning meetings.
  • Define the site team for project work breakdown structure, ensuring adherence to the project schedule, verifying, and linking all the interrelated activities, with the supervision or approval of site manager or site construction manager.
  • Define the necessary manpower for project completion, evaluating the work breakdown structure and track and update the project revenues forecasting.
  • Utilize project planning tools and techniques to monitor project progress and ensure completion of all activities. Notify Site Manager or Site Construction Manager and Project Planning Specialist if any deviations or scheduling issues and provide inputs for optimizing resources.
  • Ensure that the project follow sound methodology and execution practices in accordance with internal standard procedures.
  • Coordinate with supply chain management and updates on-site plan and formalize the site acceptance plan.
  • Communicate appropriate information to customer and other stakeholders in a timely manner to achieve desired understanding.

Your background

  • Tertiary Qualification or Diploma in Engineering with software experience would be preferable.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in planning large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Should have experience working on EPC projects for power generation plant.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) is an advantage.
  • Strong experience in costing or budgeting or estimating for EPC project.
  • Ability to assist and support senior team members on key major projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence both internally and externally.
