Description: Job Description:Job Title: Art DirectorLocation: Charleston, SC (Hybrid/On-site)Department: Marketing & Creative ServicesReports To: Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)Position SummaryCharlestowne Hotels is seeking a visionary and experienced Art Director to lead the creative development and execution of hotel and restaurant branding across our expanding portfolio within our full-service in-house marketing agency. This senior role is pivotal to shaping the visual identity and brand expression of our independent hospitality concepts – from positioning and design to on-property integration and marketing campaigns.Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Art Director will serve as the creative authority across multiple brand initiatives, ensuring each property’s distinct story is consistently and compellingly told through design, content, and experience. The role combines creative leadership with hands-on execution, working closely with designers, photographers, marketing strategists, and operations teams.Key ResponsibilitiesCreative & Brand Leadership

  • Lead, design, and present comprehensive visual identity systems, including brand marks, type hierarchies, color palettes, and print/digital applications.
  • Build and evolve brand standards and templates to ensure consistency across all creative touchpoints, including signage, menus, collateral, websites, and environmental design.
  • Maintain and elevate brand identity for each property while aligning with the overarching creative strategy of Charlestowne Hotels.
  • Research market trends, competitors, and audience behavior to inform strategic design decisions.

Production & Project Execution

  • Oversee the full creative process: concepting, design, refinement, and final delivery of assets.
  • Produce and direct photography and video shoots that reflect the unique positioning of each property.
  • Write or refine brand-aligned copy and content as needed for digital and print applications.
  • Develop tools, style guides, and systems for internal team members to execute projects efficiently and on-brand.
  • Develop templates, guides and tools that the design team will leverage to produce consistent and meaningful deliverables
  • Maintain best practices and brand standards in production, productivity, quality, and customer service.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with marketing, development, and operations teams to ensure brand integration across physical and service elements within hotel operations.
  • Communicate creative rationale to senior leadership, owners, and internal stakeholders; incorporate feedback while preserving creative integrity.
  • Coordinate with external vendors, freelancers, printers, and creative partners to bring projects to life on time and within budget.

Team Development & Departmental Management

  • Supervise, mentor, and grow designers and contractors to uphold creative excellence.
  • Review and approve design work to ensure consistency, innovation, and quality.
  • Evaluate and improve internal processes to increase departmental efficiency and output.
  • Foster a collaborative, supportive, and high-performing creative team culture.

Skills & Attributes

  • Deep understanding of typography, layout, color theory, and branding systems.
  • Highly developed visual literacy and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Strong command of grammar, editing, and brand voice articulation.

Education & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Photography, Visual Communication, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years in a senior design or art direction role; hospitality or travel industry experience preferred.
  • Technical:
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
  • Experience with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with photography and video direction.
  • Bonus: Knowledge of motion design, UI/UX, or web tools.

Travel Requirements

  • Minimal travel required. Occasional site visits or creative direction for photoshoots may be necessary.
