Essential DutiesPreparation to recruit– Meet with Dean of A&S to discuss all of the College’s academic programs and their strengths.– Review pamphlets and other departmental materials concerning academic programs, scholarships, and extracurricular opportunities.– May meet with department chairs or other faculty to get deeper details on particular academic programs and their distinctive qualities.Event approval– Communicate with Dean of A&S concerning recruitment opportunity that the student envisions: visit to HS or CC to speak to a class or interact with students at an event; event hosted by community organization or church where HS- and CC-age people are expected to be; etc.– Dean of A&S must officially approve event before the student attends as an Ambassador.Event– Attend school/community event and talk about MUW’s A&S programs with prospective students, and, as appropriate, teachers, counselors, and parents.– Hand out A&S pamphlets and other materials as available.– Take down student email addresses, and, if possible, phone numbers and other means of contact.– Ambassador’s social media posts/exchanges in support of the event will be a plus.Report back and discuss– Report to Dean of A&S the nature and extent of contacts at the event; transfer prospects’ contact information so faculty and Admissions may communicate further.– Evidence of attendance at event (photo, event program, email from teacher, etc.) requested for auditing purposes.– Discuss with Dean interests of prospective students and how the College and MUW may meet them.– Discuss with Dean how the College and MUW may best support academic progress of current A&S students.
Minimum QualificationsMust be currently enrolled at MUW in an Arts & Sciences major with cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Should feel comfortable making recruitment pitches to students and talking with teachers, counselors, and parents for promotional purposes. Should be well-organized and responsible. Student should have support of department chair in department that houses their major. Will preferably be from regions needing enhanced recruitment (the Jackson metro area, the Gulf Coast, the Delta, and the Memphis suburbs), though other areas may be considered. Should feel comfortable speaking with the Dean about interests of prospective and current MUW A&S students.

Hours of AvailabilityMay involve evening and weekend work, but that is at the student’s discretion.
