Job PurposeWorks within the Law Career Services Office to prepare law students job readiness and to secure successful opportunities in a wide variety of careers. Provides support for the development and execution of career-readiness events. Supports student learning and skill development related to securing employment: resume and cover letter review, negotiation, etc. Assists with externship counseling, site and supervision vetting.The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position is $47,400 – $59,300 annually.The internal full salary range is $47,400 – $71,160.

Function Details

  • Plan and execute career related events and including logistical support, e.g., speaker identification, invitations, building/room reservations, catering, and related.
  • Coordinate and support events that advance the career readiness of students.
  • Under the direction of the Director, network with alumni and legal professionals to develop career-related content in support of career readiness.
  • Participate and facilitate events in support of developing students’ career readiness.

  • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with students and alumni in order to provide them in-depth, individual counseling and assessment regarding their career goals.
  • Stay abreast of law firm and corporate hiring needs and serve as primary career counselor for those tracks.
  • Maintain detailed counseling notes and updated student profile information on career database.
  • Track students’ progress on their goals throughout their law school career and offer support, guidance, and resources.
  • Counsel students on opportunities to fulfill their experiential learning requirement and assist them in participating in the externship program should they choose that route.

  • Collaboration with a high volume of job applicants on drafting and finalizing cover letters, resumes and job applications.
  • Oversee office’s response times and work with Director to assure high quality product and timeliness in office’s document review process.
  • Assist with ongoing mock interview program and coach students to improve their performance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA + two (2) years of experience or six (6) years or equivalent experience if substituting for the educational requirement.
  • Career placement and/or recruitment experience.
  • Experience with reviewing cover letters, resumes and other job application materials.
  • Experience with planning/executing career related events and related logistics, e.g., invitations, building/room reservations, catering, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate positive attitude, maintain confidentiality, and exhibit professional demeanor and appearance when interacting with students, alumni, faculty, administration, staff, employers, bar associations and the public on behalf of Gonzaga University School of Law.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to consistently write and speak professionally.
  • Excellent presentation skills and event organization and promotion skills.
  • Substantial knowledge of personal computers and word processing, including document revision functions, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other software applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to work on multiple tasks;
  • Ability to be consistently productive, self-directed, and take initiative.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Desired Qualifications

  • Three (3) – five (5) years of work experience in a legal setting (private firm, judicial clerkship, public interest).
  • Work experience in higher education.
  • Experience with legal recruiting, career counseling, and/or job placement with higher education institution or staffing/recruiting agency.

Physical / Environmental Qualifications

  • Remain in a stationary position majority of the time.
  • Ability to prep for and attend meetings and events across campus in various weather conditions.
  • Wrist and hand movement related to computer work.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, stretch and reach.
  • Pick-up, carry and move items up to 25 lbs.
