Description: POSITION PURPOSE: Provides professional leadership, consultation and support of the District’s Performing / Fine Arts programs and provides teachers with knowledge regarding research, theory and practice that meets the District’s goals, objectives and initiatives and the state standards.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Engage teachers in collaborative planning, research and curriculum development using best practices.
  • Recommend the adoption of new Performing/Fine Arts instructional materials, methods and programs.
  • Provide leadership in Performing/Fine Arts to ensure attainment of the educational goals of the district.
  • Assist in the preparation of budget for Performing/Fine Arts as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of budget for content area as needed.
  • Assist the instructional services team in providing leadership for the continued analysis, development and monitoring of short and long-range plans for improving the educational program EC-12, in the specific content area.
  • Assist in articulating the vertical and horizontal Performing/Fine Arts curriculum for the district.
  • Inform the CISO of the curricular needs, implementation progress of all content area standards in the district.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations for changes, as appropriate, in district policies and procedures related to content area programs.
  • Assist in defining educational in-service activities and professional development for instructional personnel.
  • Monitor the student test results, in Performing/Fine Arts, for each school to inform future work, to make recommendations and to direct or re-direct current practices for optimal student achievement.
  • Assist in the development of strategies that will be used for continuous improvement of instructional delivery.
  • Recruit and supports teachers to serve as leadership team members for elementary and secondary schools
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with SDE related guidelines for each content area.
  • Liaison with the appropriate state, regional and national agencies and associations to ensure most current and best practices and compliance with all regulations and mandates.
  • Ensure the implementation, promotion and delivery of the SC Performing/Fine Arts Standards.
  • Prepare Performing/Fine Arts materials and provide direction for use in the school sites.
  • Promote the initiatives and practices of the school district.
  • Act as a liaison with the appropriate state, regional and national agencies and associations to ensure most current and best practices and compliance with all regulations and mandates.
  • Maintain current knowledge of developments in Performing/Fine Arts curriculum and instruction.
  • Attends training, conferences, workshops, etc. as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Become familiar and conversant regarding the current, established content area programs in each of the schools.
  • Experience teaching in the subject area of Performing/Fine Arts-preferably K-12 experience and or knowledge of all levels.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Chief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold or be eligible for a South Carolina Teaching Certificate.
  • Master’s degree (MA) or equivalent, or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of K-12 education and experience.
  • Fine Arts Curriculum Experience (preferred).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Curriculum development or supervisory experience.
