Description: LMU’s Loyola Law School invites applications for the position of Director of Trial Advocacy Programs and Associate Clinical Professor of Law.The Director will steward the varied aspects of Loyola’s nationally recognized Trial Advocacy Programs while also providing strategic leadership in considering new programming and opportunities. • Serve as the faculty advisor and head coach for Loyola’s Byrne Trial Advocacy Team, which is comprised of multiple teams of students training to compete nationwide in trial competitions;
• Teach, coach, and oversee the “Byrne Trial Advocacy Team” course each semester (which is currently 3 units for new team members and 2 units for returning team members);
• Administer the annual competition to select team members;
• Organize and oversee team member training and practice sessions, including a summer boot camp,
• Coach at least one competition team each semester and recruit, train, and supervise other coaches;
• Oversee Bryne Trial Advocacy Team budget, and work with staff to plan team travel to competitions;
• Maintain strong relationships with Bryne Trial Advocacy Team alumni and encourage their continued engagement with current team members;
• Plan, organize, and oversee Loyola’s annual National Civil Trial Competition, including recruiting lawyers to serve as judges;
• Attend trial advocacy related conferences and symposia and otherwise engage in the national trial advocacy community;
• Mentor and advise team members, including assisting team members with summer and post-graduate opportunities; and
• Promote Loyola’s Trial Advocacy Programs, including on social media.

Oversee Trial Advocacy Course Offerings

• Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, and mentor experienced lawyers who will teach trial advocacy related courses, including the foundational course in Trial Advocacy and Advanced Trial Advocacy.

Qualifications:

• Applicants are expected to have a distinguished academic background, including a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and to have practiced as a trial lawyer, either criminal or civil, for a minimum of six years and preferably eight to ten years.
• Extensive experience in supervising junior attorneys is an important aspect of an outstanding applicant’s background, as is a demonstrated ability to offer professional development guidance.
• Applicants with significant prior teaching experience, especially in trial advocacy, are strongly preferred. Engagement and connections with the national academic trial advocacy community are also preferred.
• Given the administrative responsibilities associated with the position, meaningful administrative or managerial experience is preferred.
• Applicants should be comfortable mentoring and advising students and engaging with alumni.
• Applicants must have the demonstrated ability to work well in a collaborative working environment and work well with others.
