Instructional Coordinator for Performing and Visual Arts (PVA)Purpose
The Instructional Coordinator for Performing and Visual Arts is responsible for improving student achievement by aligning Performing and Visual Arts Curriculum and Instruction to Arizona State Standards.QualificationsRequired * Valid Arizona secondary teaching certificate in related field.

  • Master’s degree in education or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a Performing and Visual Arts classroom.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Valid AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Evidence of experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of Arizona Academic Standards.
  • Evidence of collaborative leadership.
  • Experience in professional staff development.

Preferred * Arizona Administration certificate.

  • Endorsements in any related field.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Essential Functions * Supervises and leads development of explicit written curriculum in designated content areas. Includes development of curriculum guides including a scope and sequence and unit plans using the common district created template for all content areas assigned.

  • Creates and uploads common district assessments aligned with state and district standards.
  • Performs consistent review and evaluation of curriculum guides, end of unit assessments, and End Course Assessments (EOCAs) and establishes collaborative plans for revision.
  • Meets regularly with designated department chairs and establishes learning communities by subject and content areas.
  • Monitors and evaluates vertical and horizontal assessment and alignment of curriculum by subject and content areas.
  • Meets regularly with Curriculum and Instruction leadership to establish priorities for curriculum revision and professional staff development needs.
  • Provides timely updates to other stakeholders including, but not limited to, APIs, APRs, and department chairs and members of the curriculum and instruction team.
  • Works collaboratively with campus administrators, staff developers and department chairs in addressing curriculum and staff development needs as related to the school improvement plan process.
  • Attend workshops and research scientifically based best instructional practices and shares information with administrative and certified staff.
  • Works with Curriculum and Instruction leadership to interpret data for purposes of department, school wide and district goal setting and planning.
  • Participates in updates to the Academic Planning Guide as an APG committee member.
  • Takes part in review of proposed new courses.
  • Participates in classroom observations to collect data and provide support to teachers and administrative staff regarding implementation of curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Oversees and leads the textbook adoption process, when necessary, by following all governing board, state, and district policies.
  • Assesses staff development needs in assigned content areas and conducts staff development workshops.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of state assessments including ACT, ACT Aspire, and alternative tests.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

The Visual & Performing Arts Coordinator provides leadership and coordination to develop, achieve, and maintain the best possible District K-12 music, Visual and Performing Arts, and Physical Education (PE) programs.Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking, and 15% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. The employee will regularly work indoors. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Travel between District campuses and to locations outside the District is required.
