Description: General Description: The High School Principal will be the instructional leader and manager of all operations and programming at the high school and will utilize leadership skills to continuously build and maintain an effective learning environment within the school.Key Responsibilities and Duties:Domain 1: Strategic/Cultural LeadershipFormulates and implements plans to provide instructional leadership for staff members in developing and improving the instructional program and each member’s professional competency.Determines the master schedule of classes, including necessary special assignments, and the assignment load of teachers within the limits of approved policy and procedures.Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate, including school safety provisions, in the school.Supervises directly, or in cooperation with others, all professional, paraprofessional, technical and non-certified personnel assigned to the building.Oversees appropriate school departments and committees in order to facilitate a successful learning environment for students.Develops and supports, through attendance, special events held to recognize student achievement, and encourage school-sponsored activities, functions, and seasonal events. Supervises, evaluates, provides support for all extra-curricular staff and student events including athletics and the performing arts.Domain 2: Systems LeadershipDirects the implementation of Board of Education approved policies and administrative procedures applicable to the operation of the school.Evaluates all personnel for whom he/she is administratively responsible including the establishment of goals, evaluation and counseling regarding performance. Makes recommendations to management as needed, and ensures the submission of all evaluations according to established procedures.Seeks the advice and cooperation of staff in addressing building issues or concerns, remaining responsible for all decisions.Orients newly-assigned staff members and assists in their development through the effective use of an induction plan.Shall consult with the superintendent/director of operations concerning the larger problems of the school and advise him/her regarding all plans and policies of importance connected with the management of the school. The principal shall inform the superintendent’s office, by means or proper channels, regarding all matters of importance.Prepares and submits the annual budget for the school in assigned areas. Maintains and coordinates, in conjunction with the business manager, all ordering and expenditures of funds. Maintains and controls local funds generated by school activities. Monitors compliance with policy requirements regarding funds raised, expended, or held by the school, or any class, organization, club society or group.Prepares and supervises the preparation of reports, records, and other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.Abides by, monitors and enforces building-wide compliance with federal, state and local school laws and regulations, mandated programs, District policies and administrative regulations, and applicable collective bargaining agreements. Reviews and abides by Pennsylvania Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for Educators.Conducts staff meetings to keep staff informed of, and receives advice on, proposed policy changes, new programs, school issues, and similar matters.Directs those matters that insure the safety of the pupils and the efficient use of the physical facilities, recommending replacement and repair.Oversees general pupil safety including fire drills and civilian defense procedures.Attends, supervises, and evaluates all extra-curricular activities including performing arts and activities.Domain 3: Leadership for LearningAssists in the development, monitoring evaluation, data review and dissemination, and revision of the curriculum and instructional program.Assures that the Pennsylvania Academic Standards are aligned with school curriculum and followed in delivering the educational program to students.Maintains high standards of student conduct.Leads, monitors, supervises and supports student academic progress, attendance, and conduct.Fosters an environment of consistency in the application and enforcement of student discipline policies and procedures.Enforces positive behavior systems and offers resources to support student’s compliance of guidelines.Ensures all disciplinary actions comply with the student code of conduct, affording due process to all students.Domain 4: Professional and Community Leadership1. Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees and councils within the school2. Participates in district-wide meetings, principal’s meetings, or other meetings as required or appropriate.3. Strong interpersonal skills including an ability to communicate effectively.4. Acts as the liaison between the school and community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.5. Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent or director of operations.
