Description: Job Description:Permanent Position August 2025The Upper Darby School District is seeking applicants certified as a School Counselor for a full-time vacancy at Upper Darby High School.Qualifications:

• PA Instructional Certificate – Elementary and Secondary School Counselor (PK-12)

Out-of-state educators and anyone seeking an emergency certificate should review the guidelines set by the PA Department of Education. Pennsylvania Certification information is available at:https://www.education.pa.gov/Educators/Certification/Pages/default.aspx

• BA and Master’s degree required in appropriate major study

• Knowledge of content in the certification area

• Classroom/group management skills

• Ability to use instructional materials and equipment

• Knowledge of child growth and development

• Instructional skills

• Planning Skills

• Human Relations Skills

• Strong communication and motivational skills.

• Ability to effectively communicate with, instruct, and work with students, staff and parents.

Job Goal:To participate, as a member of the instructional staff, in directing the learning of high school students. Such participation shall be directed toward attainment of general and specific objectives of the curricula of the school, and of the school district.Major Function:1. To provide individual and group counseling to ensure that
students will gain the optimum from the educational program2. To help implement group testing program ( 9-12)3. To support students, staff and parents of students so that each student can meet their educational goals.4. To support students in course selections and to roster students following Upper Darby guidelines.5. To help students with college and vocational choices6. To provide an environment to facilitate personal and social growth7. To initiate and implement a career educational program8. To serve as a liaison between the home and school, teacher and pupil, school and community9. To provide an effective system of referrals to other specialists within the school system10. To provide available information on scholarships and financial aid.11. To utilize and recommend the services available in the Career Center to students, parents, staff, and community12.
