As an Industrial Scientist specializing in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), you’ll play a critical role in our global innovation network by delivering high-impact analytical insights that drive product development, process optimization, and scientific discovery.This is a 15-month, full-time assignment based in our Allentown, PA research center where you’ll collaborate with experts across divisions, apply your deep technical knowledge, and help shape the future of material and life sciences innovation.What You’ll DoIn this role, you will:Apply one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) NMR techniques to characterize formulated products and newly synthesized moleculesDevelop 1D and 2D NMR methods for structural elucidation and mixture analysisMaintain and troubleshoot NMR instrumentationLeverage data generated by complementary techniques (GC-MS, LC-MS, FTIR) in collaboration with team members to enhance and support NMR interpretationContribute to operating other analytical instrumentation in the lab such as GC, HPLC, GPC, and MS as neededCollaborate with internal teams across Evonik’s business lines and global R&D community to provide analytical insights that inform scientific and technical decisionsCollaborate with global Evonik NMR colleagues (in Germany and China) to support research and development, method transfer, and troubleshootingUphold EH&S standards, knowledge protection protocols, and lab safety cultureContribute to broader team operations, including inventory, equipment oversight, and continuous process improvement initiativesWhat We’re Looking ForWe’re seeking a scientist with deep technical expertise, a collaborative spirit, and a proactive mindset. The ideal candidate will bring:A Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or a related fieldCandidates with a Ph.D. should have 0–2 years of relevant industry experience.Candidates with a Master’s degree and at least 3 years of industrial experience in instrumental analytics will also be considered.Extensive hands-on experience in NMR spectroscopy, including maintenance, troubleshooting, instrument operation, method development, and spectral interpretationDemonstrated proficiency or understanding of chromatographic and mass spectrometry analysis techniques such as GC, HPLC, GPC, and mass spectrometryFamiliarity with a broader range of analytical techniques (e.g., ICP-OES, titration, particle characterization, thermal analysis) is beneficialExpertise in organic or polymer chemistry, enabling effective interpretation of NMR data in support of Evonik’s advanced materials and specialty chemical innovationsExcellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across global, multidisciplinary teamsAbility to collaborate with colleagues to ensure projects are delivered on time and address scientific questionsA track record of delivering high-quality results, supported by publications, presentations, projects, or technical documentationProficiency in English, both written and oralYour Career Path and Local LivingThis 15-month postdoctoral program is a unique opportunity to launch a fulfilling and impactful career.
