If you’re passionate about advancing legal scholarship and making a difference, we invite you to apply.What you need to knowSalary: Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experienceCover Letter/Resume: A cover letter and resume are strongly recommendedNote: This position is open to new law graduates as well as early- to mid-career attorneysQualificationsRequired Education and Experience:Doctor of Jurisprudence or equivalentRequired Licenses and Certifications:Must be licensed to practice law in Texas or another state or be eligible for licensure (including JD and LLM graduates awaiting bar exam results or sitting for the July 2025 bar exam)Preferred Qualifications:A post-graduate degree (e.g., MPH, LLM), healthcare degree (e.g., MD, BSN, MSW), or significant health-related work experience may be preferredStrong legal research and writing skills, a demonstrated interest in health and healthcare, and the ability to work independently and collaborativelyOne year of work or academic experience with sources of healthcare finance or coverage, foster youth advocacy, substance use disorder, or related areas may be preferredApplications with cover letters and writing sample (or scholarly publication) will be preferred. The cover letter should highlight relevant experience in prior coursework, professional, or volunteer work; explain your career goals and how this fellowship furthers growth in the context of your professional trajectory; and address any areas of weakness in your applicationKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Exceptional research and writing skills, including publications, and health law-related interests in areas like health policy, health justice, bioethics, healthcare regulation, and non-medical drivers of health, including familial stability and child welfare, etcStrong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a teamOutstanding ability to interact effectively with people at all levels within the university and with industry contactsResponsibilitiesResearch: Researches, develops, and disseminates legal and public policy analyses to inform and shape specific federal and state policy. Analyzes research data and summarizes results and contribute to research papers, articles, and publications.Mentoring: Assists, mentors, and/or supervises law student researchers and/or graduate students who are working on research related to the project. May develop educational programs and fora in which leading experts from the public and private sectors examine important legal and policy developments.Presentations: Prepares presentation materials on legal and public policy analyses topic that may be presented to small and/or large groups, such as speaking at continuing education programs and presenting at academic and other conferences.
