Our Middle School program values hands-on learning experiences that empower students to explore and express their unique ideas. We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Art & Makerspace Teacher to inspire creativity and curiosity in our 6th-8th grade students.Position Overview:The Middle School Art & Makerspace Teacher will design and deliver engaging lessons that integrate traditional art practices with modern maker technologies. This individual will inspire students to explore various mediums, build critical problems-solving skills, and develop a love of artistic expression and innovation.Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a comprehensive curriculum blending visual arts, design thinking, and makerspace activities.
  • Teacher foundational art techniques, principles of design, and 3D modeling, alongside technology-driven skills such as laser cutting, 3D printing, and coding.
  • Foster a safe, creative, and collaborative learning environment where students can experiment, prototype, and create.
  • Manage and maintain the makerspace tools, materials, and technology to ensure safe and effective use.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate art and maker activities into interdisciplinary projects.
  • Assess student progress through project-based assessments, exhibitions, and portfolios.
  • Organize art showcases, exhibitions, or makerspace events to celebrate student work.
  • Actively support the school’s mission to cultivate creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving in all students.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Design, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification) in Art Education or a related subject.
  • Experience in teaching art and/or managing makerspace activities, preferably at the middle school level.
  • Proficiency with makerspace tools, technology, and software (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters, CAD software, etc.).
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage middle school learners.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in integrating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and MAth) into curriculum design.
  • Background in project-based learning (PBL) and interdisciplinary teaching.
  • Passion for cultivating creativity and curiosity in diverse student populations.
