Description: POSITION: Pre-School Assistant (BGHS) 4.5 hrs/day 22.5 hrs/wk Grade 4 Effective August 7, 2025SALARY: Grade 4, Step 1, $25.83ASSIGNMENT: 10 MonthGENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This is work involving the performance of a variety of tasks related to the care and instruction of pre-school age children. There is considerable contact with the pre-school children, high school students, staff and parents and occasional contact with outside agencies. Must also comply with state and local health department standards.An employee in this position works within clearly established systems and procedures, must exhibit organizational skills and exercise independent judgment and confidentiality in the performance of duties. The Pre-School Assistant must exhibit initiative and embrace a collaborative team approach to accomplish the mission of the districtQUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have one of the following: a Child Development Associate Degree (C.D.A.), an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, a bachelor’s degree including 18 credit hours in early childhood development or obtain State and NCLB Approved Paraprofessional Designation in accordance with requirements specified by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Must have physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials and office equipment up to 40 lbs.Must sit at workstation for extended period of time and/or move frequently from workstation to various other areas of building.Must organize and prioritize workflow.Must be proficient in the use of computers, office practices, procedures and office equipment.Must project a positive image of the district to students, staff and parents as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude.Must demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills, and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public.Must have awareness of a variety of student needs including physical and social emotional needs.Must have possession of a valid Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/AED Certificate or equivalent.Must move about frequently including bending/reaching, sitting on the floor, moving up/down and lifting pre-school children frequently throughout the day.Must be visually observant in dealing with pre-school children.POSITION EXPECTATIONS:Supports the activities and instructional goals of a daycare pre-school facility by, but not limited to:providing care and instruction for pre-school children and ensuring a safe, healthy, environmentemploying a variety of educational techniques including but not limited to: storytelling, educational play, and media to teach childrenobserving each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self esteemensuring compliance with required guidelines for safety and sanitationordering, monitoring and distributing suppliesSupports the activities of the pre-school team by, but not limited to:assisting in organizing written lesson/work plans for high school students and pre-school childrenpurchasing food, materials, and supplies as neededadapting teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of childrenestablishing and enforcing rules of behavior for children in the pre-school settingproviding tools and resources for high school students to use for learning and lesson planningAssisting in the leadership of high school students involved in child development courses.Participating in appropriate professional development activities in order to enhance job performance.Cultivating and developing inclusive and equitable working relationships with staff, students and community membersAPPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online.Click on the Red “APPLY” button to begin an online application.We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our district.
