Description: Job Description:As a Principal Scientist, Biotherapies Scientific Development, you will lead the development of cell therapy processes, including cell isolation, characterization, cryopreservation and validation–key starting materials for cutting-edge therapies such as CAR-T. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact by helping build and lead a next-generation cell therapy lab.What you can expect:Schedule: Days Monday-Friday start time varies upon workload (8:00 AM-10:00 AM). This role will work occasional nights and weekends depending on project.Location: This role will temporarily operate out of our Denver, CO location, with a planned relocation to our new facility at the Skokie, Illinois Science and Technology Park in Q1 2026.Travel: 15% may need to travel to Skokie IL during build out and travel for collaboration meetings in San Francisco and other Scientific events/meetings.To help you stay energized, engaged, and inspired, we offer a full range of benefits for you and your dependents.
We’re looking for someone who can:
Write and implement SOPs and validation protocols.Train and mentor future scientific staff.Lead validations of starting materials for cell therapies (e.g., CAR-T).Contribute to the setup and operational readiness of the new Skokie lab.Collaborate closely with Biotherapies colleagues across sites.Requirements:EducationPhD in Immunology or a related scientific field required.Licenses/CertificationsNone required.ExperienceMinimum 7 years of relevant experience, including:Primary and engineered cell culture.Transduction and live-cell fluorescent imaging.Flow cytometry, cytokine secretion, and other cell-based assays.Cell processing and cryopreservation, including protocol development, QC, and scale-up.Scientific project management, including oversight of multiple concurrent projects.Skills & AbilitiesStrong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills.Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and shifting workloads.Proficient in clinical and/or research laboratory techniques.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).Strategic thinker with the ability to work independently.Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant scientific software.Ability to lead, inspire, and support scientific teams in a collaborative environment.Maintains confidentiality and exercises sound judgment.Desire and capability to grow into a people management role.Experience scaling team operations and supporting organizational growth.Summary:About UsVitalant is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit blood and biotherapies healthcare organizations, providing hospitals and patients across the U.S. a safe blood supply, specialized laboratory services, transfusion medicine expertise and world-renowned research.
