If you’re ready to make an impact, we’d love to have you onboard!The RoleAs a Senior Mobile Software Engineer at Upstart, you’ll be instrumental in designing and building scalable, user-centric mobile applications using React Native. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver features that not only delight users but also align with Upstart’s core goals. This hands-on role is perfect for someone who enjoys taking ownership, making technical decisions, and helping improve the mobile platform’s quality and scalability.What You’ll Do:Build & Maintain:
Develop and maintain user-facing features in our React Native mobile apps, starting with iOS and soon expanding to Android. Design components that are maintainable, performant, and scalable.Collaborate & Align:
Work closely with cross-functional teams—product, design, and backend—to scope, implement, and ship features that meet both user needs and business goals.Optimize & Improve:
Contribute to platform improvements including tooling, testing strategies, CI/CD, and performance monitoring. Partner with backend engineers to define APIs that work seamlessly with mobile clients.Mentor & Elevate:
Contribute to a strong mobile engineering culture by mentoring junior engineers, participating in code reviews, and helping raise the engineering standards across the team.Quality Focus:
Take ownership of delivering features from planning to release, ensuring they’re designed with maintainability and scalability in mind. Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues to keep the mobile experience smooth.What You’ll Bring:Your Experience & Skills:6+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong background in mobile development.3+ years of hands-on experience with React Native.Familiarity with native platforms like Swift/Objective-C for iOS or Kotlin/Java for Android.Solid understanding of mobile performance, memory management, and platform constraints.Proven track record of delivering production-level apps and features in a fast-paced environment.Technical Expertise:Comfortable working with APIs, mobile frameworks, and third-party libraries.Experience with mobile CI/CD pipelines, performance monitoring, and tooling improvements.Familiar with TypeScript or custom native modules for mobile development.Collaboration & Ownership:Strong communicator who can effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.Ability to balance speed and quality, always advocating for scalable, maintainable solutions.A natural mentor who enjoys coaching junior developers and fostering a collaborative team environment.Bonus Points If You:Have experience scaling or launching a React Native app on Android.Worked with mobile analytics, push notifications, deep linking, or A/B testing frameworks.Have contributed to internal tools or processes that improved mobile developer velocity or code quality.Have a background in fast-paced product companies where mobile was a key user touchpoint.What We Offer:Competitive Compensation:
Anticipated base salary range of $163,600 – $226,400 USD, depending on location, skills, and experience.
