Description: The Bywater Institute’s mission is to catalyze thriving climate and water futures through transdisciplinary & collaborative scholarship. The Research Scientist I position will support research on coastal climate adaptation, community and economic resilience, and urban and rural water management at the Tulane ByWater Institute. The incumbent will work in a multidisciplinary environment supporting research staff, faculty, and the director and will grow ByWater’s research capacity by pursuing new collaborations and by engaging in proposal development. The incumbent will have opportunities to pursue external funding and further develop their research agenda and interests.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with qualitative data collection and analysis, including conducting semi-structured interviews and coding data for thematic development.
  • Experience working collaboratively in team settings.
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal, organizational, written, and communication skills.
  • Ability to write peer reviewed publications and present at public meetings.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally.
  • Ability to take leadership role in planning and executing data collection and analysis.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Terminal Degree (Ph.D.) in social science-related field or interdisciplinary field with adequate focus on social dimensions of the environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with project management and meeting facilitation
  • Experience working with climate justice and/or Indigenous communities
  • Experience using mixed methods
