Description: The School Nurse/District Health Coordinator provides direction toward the development of a school health program which assists each child in reaching his/her optimal physical potential.Essential Duties & Functions

This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a complete listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this job class.)· Maintains, improves and evaluates the district health program;
· Acts as a coordinator and provides technical assistance and input in the day-to-day operation of the Health Services Department;
· Assists in the development and update of policies and procedures for the Health Services Department;
· Keeps abreast of current school health trends, developments, research, and legislation/regulations;
· Organizes, leads and supervises the Health Services staff;
· Evaluates Health Services personnel yearly in conjunction with the building principals, Special Services Director and Assistant Superintendent;
· May provide performance appraisal data to school principals;
· Observes intervention skills of Health Services personnel and provides technical assistance as needed;
· Conducts orientation and on-going in-service opportunities for Health Services personnel;
· Communicates to Health Services staff information received from the District, community, government, and professional organizations;
· Interviews and recommends Health Services personnel to building principals, Special Services Director, and Governing Board;
· Contributes to the understanding of the Health Services Department through public relations and interagency activities;
· Interprets the Health Services program for district personnel;
· Provides copies of monthly and annual Health Services statistics and makes formal presentations to explain the implications to students and the District;
· Assists in assuring compliance with national, state, county and district school health regulations;
· Administers the Health Services Department budget;
· Performs other related duties as assigned.Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of federal, state and CFSD guidelines regarding the Health Services department
  • Knowledge of changing growth and behavioral patterns of children
  • Knowledge of proper English grammar, usage and spelling
  • Skills in developing and delivering school health programs
  • Skill in coordinating a health services program and maintaining mandated records
  • Skill in training health assistants and registered nurses
  • Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, administrators, students and parents

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field; BSN preferred;
  • Unencumbered RN license in the State or Arizona;
  • Minimum of five years of recent experience in nursing;
  • Prefer education and/or experience related to child growth and development, school or public health experience;
  • Prefer prior supervisory experience as a licensed registered nurse;
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.

Special Requirements

  • Current AZ Dept of Public Safety Level One IVP fingerprint clearance card;
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification;
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license and clear driving record.

Salary: $53000 – 58460 per year
