Description: The job of the School Police Officer (Supervisor of School Safety and Security) was established for the purpose/s of providing for the safety and welfare of students and staff while on school grounds; coordinating sporting events with administrators; observing personnel and/or visitors; investigating possible illegal student, staff, and parent actions; communicating information, observations, and/or incidents that have potential impact on the general well-being of students, personnel and/or visitors; supporting administrative and/or campus activities; and to be a resource for and instructor in crime prevention and drug awareness/ prevention.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Works collaboratively with the Director of Facilities to monitor District buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, criminal activity including unauthorized entry onto District property using available technology. Initiates appropriate action when a threat to the school environment exists.
Oversees the proper use of non-violent crisis intervention and restraint techniques, anger management and conflict resolution skills by assigned staff.
Acts as a responder for alarm or trouble signals from each system.
Fills out pertinent security forms in accordance with District policies and procedures. Reports security violations, parking or traffic violations, unauthorized usage of school property, and unusual activity to the appropriate person. In consultation with building administrator, writes District notices or citations for violations according to District procedure.
Establishes or maintains existing online and hard copy filing systems appropriate for school security and in accordance with standardized records management procedures so as to facilitate retrieval and access.
Maintains classified or confidential materials in accordance with security procedures and transfers and discards files in accordance with established procedures and schedules. Maintains confidentiality with all District information, including District and school population information.
Contacts and/or assists local law enforcement and emergency personnel when needed or while present on School District properties. Maintains good liaison between the District and law enforcement.
Conducts periodic spot checks of all properties for security, safety issues, fire hazards, parking, signage concerns, and District, local, state, and federal violations and makes recommendations to address them.
Acts as liaison for CSD and to the local Police Municipalities; arranges meetings with local police and/or community members as necessary; oversight of Memorandum of Understandings with each municipality
Acts as District Safety Committee Liaison
Coordination of and District liaison with the School Resource Officers (SROs)
Collaboration and oversight of Municipality police assistance needs that would require payment for services
Conducts Physical Security/Safety Assessments along with oversight of outside assessments
Maintains oversight and tracking of district emergency drills; including uploading information to PDE for state and district compliance reasons
Staff development and training for emergency situations which includes all drill-related training
Attendance and lead security at co-curricular/extra-curricular activities, or delegate to security personnel
Preparation and Planning of Emergency Response Manual through District Administration
Regular building walk-throughs, continually assessing district safety concerns
Conduct Semi-Annual building security and safety meetings with each principal or designee
Respond to all security-related incidents as needed
Assists in the development of in-service programs for staff and security guards
Recommends changes in policies in regard to safety and security, regulations and procedures as related to building and grounds security; recommends security modifications
Works collaboratively with Facilities for additional security upgrades/needs
Submission of required PA Safe Schools reports
District Core Team Member for SAFE2SAY program
Oversight, scheduling, and supervision of staff
Oversight and collaboration with contracted Security firm for district events as needed
Oversight and working knowledge of the CSD Security System including building cameras and card reader systems
Conduct an annual School Board Security update in accordance with Act 44
Coordinates the activities of the security guards and works with them to oversee security of buildings and grounds

Salary: $87801 – 122922 per year
