Description: Livonia Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified secondary English Language Arts (ELA) teacher who will be able to develop and sustain academic-focused instruction for students in the subject of ELA. The teacher will identify and implement best practices in instruction and student achievement.DISTRICT OVERVIEW:Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,900 staff members, serving approximately 13,300 students pre-K – post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center, and 1 vocational and transition center in the school district.   • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the subject area
  • Valid Secondary Michigan Teaching Certificate with BX or BA endorsements
  • A major in the subject area is strongly preferred
  • A passionate commitment to improving learning for all students

  • Evidence of ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills

MAJOR FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create a welcoming and positive classroom climate and culture.
  • Exhibit a commitment to the District’s Shared Vision and Collective Commitments.
  • Teach content and skills in Math to secondary students, utilizing curriculum adopted by the Board of Education.
  • Integrate school improvement goals into the classroom.
  • Adapt the curriculum, instruction, and lessons to provide individual, small-group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual student.
  • Encourage students to think independently and to express original ideas.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide a safe and productive classroom environment.
  • Maintain student classroom records using district provided electronic gradebook.
  • Identify student needs and work collaboratively with other professional staff members in assessing and assisting students.
  • Communicate with students, parents, and school counselors on student progress.
  • Administer and monitor group tests.
  • Participate in school improvement initiatives at the district and school level, committees, and collaborative learning teams.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The employee’s salary and working conditions are in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Professional Agreement between the Livonia Public Schools School District and the Livonia Education Association.
