Under the supervision of the Senior Special Events & Marketing Coordinator assists with implementing and promoting a variety of special events and activities for the community. This position assists with soliciting sponsorships, managing volunteers, seeking partnerships and developing marketing strategies to produce high-quality events that fulfill the desires of the community and enhance tourism to the City. This position is responsible for providing high-quality customer service in all personal interactions with the public.Applicants are required to attach a resume and cover letter.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Plans, conducts, supervises, and monitors downtown programming and special events.Serves as staff liaison in working with third-party vendors and outside entities looking to host events on city property and parks.Conducts feasibility studies on special events and marketing efforts; analyzes the effectiveness of new and existing events; makes changes as necessary.Solicits sponsorship for special events; manages all operations and execution on the day of the event.Performs a full range of tasks associated with the special event permit process, including coordination between city departments.Coordination with city communications team and other departments to market events.Promotes special events to other agencies, corporations, businesses, and the news media.Interacts with the public and city staff on a daily basis; answers inquiries and assists patrons as needed.Interacts and coordinates with other agencies and civic organizations for innovative, cultural, and creative events.Assists with other non-Downtown special events.Develops and implements goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for all marketing and public relations efforts for the department.Provides quality customer service to city staff, the general public, and all other work contacts.Performs other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education, training and Experience GuidelinesBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Hospitality, Special Events, Marketing, Business, or a related field. One (1) year of full-time progressively responsible special event coordination experience performing functions consistent with the essential functions for this classification. OR Any combination of experience, education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Additional experience can be substituted for educational requirements. Supervisory experience preferred. Experience working with volunteers is a definite plus.Knowledge of:Applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures regarding new marketing trends and marketing effectiveness.Applicable safety rules and regulations to protect citizens and employees.Research, analysis, and application techniques for grant programs and funding.Skill in:The creation of advertisements, brochures, press releases and marketing development techniques.Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop.Using computer and related equipment, hardware and software.Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.Multi-tasking and working under pressure to meet deadlines.Working independently.Website editing; proofreading.Reading memos, daily instructions, policies, brochures, and promotional material.Performing mathematical calculations to determine expenses and revenues.Analyzing statistical data; interpreting policies, procedures, and City ordinances.Defining and resolving problems quickly and effectively.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTSValid Class C Texas driver’s licensePHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENTStanding, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
