Description: The Department of Social and Cultural Sciences is seeking a Teaching Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) who will teach courses in criminology and/or legal studies. The area of specialization is open. The position carries a 4/4 teaching load. This colleague will contribute up to 50% of their teaching effort to courses in the and/or the . This is a 9-month position with the expectation of appointment renewal for subsequent periods. The position is in person and will begin in August 2025.A PhD in Criminology, Sociology, or related social science field is required by the time of appointment. ABDs with a clear timeline for completion before the start of employment will be considered. A J.D. alone is not sufficient for this position. The Department of Social and Cultural Sciences offers undergraduate majors in Anthropology, Criminology and Law Studies, Social Welfare and Justice, and Sociology. The department also houses two interdisciplinary minors in Law and Society and Culture, Health, and Illness and a Master’s in Criminal Justice Data Analytics. Duties and ResponsibilitiesApplicants will be fully responsible for course design, content, syllabus preparation, and delivery, grading exams and papers. Courses must be offered in person. Must maintain a minimum of three office hours per week. All full-time faculty are expected to attend faculty meetings.
Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesEarned doctorate or a terminal degree. Five years of teaching experience or other suitable professional experience.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesA PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology or a related social science field is required by the time of appointment. ABDs with a clear timeline for completion before the start of employment will be considered. Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
