Job Ttitle: Teaching Assistant Professor, Interior Architecture – School of Art and Design

Description: West Virginia University School of Art and Design is seeking applications for the position of Teaching Assistant Professor of Interior Architecture. The successful candidate will guide students in developing both intellectual curiosity and practical knowledge, enabling them to address complex design solutions creatively and rigorously. This position is full time, 9-month, non-tenure track, benefit eligible appointment that can achieve promotion. Starting date is August 15, 2025.ResponsibilitiesTeaching (80%)
- Teach all levels of undergraduate Interior Design courses as needed. Teaching assignment is normally four (3-credit hour) courses per semester.
Research (10%)
- Continue professional and creative research agenda related to the discipline of Interior Architecture at a modest level.
- Seek some internal and external sources of research funding. Support to maintain participation at national meetings important to the discipline and to stay current in areas of instruction.
Service (10%)
- Provide input to Coordinator of the Interior Architecture program related to scheduling of classes, course development, and curriculum updates.
- Participate at a modest level in School, College, and University committee assignments/service initiatives.
- Participate in student recruitment and retention initiatives.
- Contribute to CIDA accreditation application as needed.
Date of Appointment: August 15, 2025QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
- Candidates must have at least or a minimum of a non-terminal master’s degree (e.g. MA/MS) in interior design or interior design-related field.
- Minimum of one year teaching experience at the college or university level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of commercial and residential building codes.
- Written and oral communication skills consistent with and complementary to the expectations of a public research university.
- All required qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Terminal master’s degree (e.g. MFA, MID, MArch) or doctorate in interior design or interior design-related discipline.
- Professional design experience in a commercial field and experience in the application of digital technology to design.
- Proficiency in AutoCad, and Adobe Creative Cloud (particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.)
- Ability to teach BIM (Revit) and rendering (Lumion or other).
- NCIDQ certification preferred.
- Experience attracting and retaining students in the discipline.
