Kansas City, Kansas Public Library (KCKPL) serves Wyandotte County, a community in Northeastern Kansas with a population of around 170,000, with five library branches and three mobile libraries. KCKPL was formed in 1893 and came under the authority of the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District Board of Education in 1899, where it remains today. The mission of Kansas City, Kansas Public Library is to connect members of a dynamic community with information, tools, resources, and welcoming spaces to enrich lives in Wyandotte County.Job Goal:
The Web Content Specialist supports the library’s communications and marketing efforts by creating and maintaining engaging digital content. This position is responsible for developing written and visual materials for the library website, social media, and newsletter, while ensuring messaging aligns with KCKPL’s brand and mission. The role collaborates with the Marketing and Communications team to enhance the visibility of services and programs across all digital platforms.Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with library staff to create and maintain engaging, timely website content that promotes library services, programs, and events.
  • Write and edit content for internal and external communication channels, including the website and eNewsletter.
  • Adhere to KCKPL’s voice and style guidelines, producing high-quality, error-free copy.
  • Assist with the layout, printing, folding, and distribution of print marketing materials.
  • Conduct marketing research to guide the promotion of library programs and services.
  • Support the coordination of marketing and communications projects and initiatives.
  • Stay current on social media trends and how they relate to website promotion and engagement.
  • Maintain and update the library’s publication database and manage inventory needs.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure cohesive and consistent messaging across platforms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Three years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a library, nonprofit, or public agency preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Experience with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva preferred.
  • Must pass a background check according to library standards.
  • Must understand and be willing to fulfill the mission, policies, and procedures of KCKPL.
  • Must provide own transportation to and from library and outreach locations.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and extra duty as needed.

Physical Demands
